What ID Do You Need to Visit Someone at Lehigh County Jail (and how to get a Penn DOT photo ID)
To get into Lehigh County Jail for a visit, you need a current, valid, government-issued ID with your photo and date of birth - both on the same document. No exceptions. If your ID is missing either one, you won't be admitted.
A driver's license works, including licenses from any state. Just make sure it's current and shows your photo and date of birth.
A passport works too. Bring the actual document - not a photocopy - so staff can verify it at check-in.
Medical Assistance cards are accepted, but only if yours has both a photo and your date of birth printed on it. If it's missing either, it won't work.
A Penn DOT–issued ID card is another option. These are examples - not a complete list - but whatever you bring must be government-issued, current, and show your photo and date of birth on the same document.
Need to get a Penn DOT photo ID? You'll have to visit their office in person at 1710 Hanover Avenue, off Airport Road. There's no shortcut here - the jail won't accept anything else at the door.
- ✓ Your birth certificate
- ✓ A document that notes your Social Security number (for example: Social Security card, MA card, passport, selective service card, or a W2 form)
Bring a check or money order for the fee. Penn DOT doesn't accept cash.
- Go to the Penn DOT office in person with your documents - Bring your birth certificate and a document that shows your Social Security number.
- Get the form from Penn DOT - After you present your documents, Penn DOT officials will issue you a form.
- Take the form to a photo center - You’ll need to bring that form to one of the photo centers to complete the photo ID process.
Penn DOT hours for this are Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. If you're trying to get your ID before an upcoming visit, plan around that window.
Warning: Show up without a current, valid government-issued ID that has both your photo and date of birth on the same document, and you won't get in. Period.
