Bringing Children to Visit at Lieber: ID and Supervision Rules
Bringing kids to visit at Lieber goes smoothly when you have the right paperwork and understand a couple of strict supervision rules.
If your child is age 10 or older, they must present a government-issued photo ID to visit Lieber Corrections Institution. Plan on staff checking it as part of the normal check-in process, so don’t rely on school IDs or other unofficial documents.
For children nine and younger, bring a certified long-form birth certificate instead of a photo ID. This is what the facility accepts as identification for younger kids - make sure it's the certified long-form version, not a short form or informal copy.
During a two-hour visit at Lieber, each visitor gets one restroom break. If you're bringing a child, plan around this limit - you don't want to cut the visit short because someone needed a second trip.
Note: When a child nine or younger accompanies you to the restroom, that single trip counts as both your allowed use and theirs for the entire two-hour visit.
Form 19-118 (Authorization for Adult Supervision of a Minor) is only required for in-person visits. Virtual visits don't require this form.
Practical Checklist
- ✓ If your child is 10+ - bring the child’s government-issued photo ID
- ✓ If your child is 9 or younger - bring the child’s certified long-form birth certificate
- ✓ If you’re bringing a minor for an in-person visit - have Form 19-118 ready for entry (not required for virtual visits)
- ✓ Plan around the one allowed use of the visitation-room restroom during the two-hour visit
- ✓ If you have a child age 9 or younger with you, know that a restroom trip together counts as both your one-time use and the child’s one-time use
If you're not the child's parent or legal guardian, bring any paperwork showing you're authorized to supervise and make decisions for the child. Having documentation ready can prevent delays at check-in.
