Before Your First Visit to Little Sandy: A Practical Checklist of What to Bring (and What to Leave in the Car)

Your first visit goes much smoother when you show up with the right ID, only the items Little Sandy allows in the visiting room, and everything else locked in your car. Use this checklist to avoid getting turned away at the door or having your visit cut short.

Two things determine whether you get in: valid photo ID and prior approval. At Little Sandy Correctional Complex (LSCC), adults must show a photo ID at check-in. You also need to be on the inmate's approved visitation list. No exceptions. If your name isn't on that list, you won't visit, even if you drove hours to get there.

Bringing kids? Plan their paperwork too. Children need two forms of identification to visit LSCC. There's one narrow exception: infants under six months can visit without a Social Security number, as long as the adult bringing them meets all visiting guidelines.

Don't just show up hoping for the best. Visitation at LSCC must be scheduled in advance by contacting the facility, and your visit needs approval before you go. Plan around the limits: visits last up to two hours, and each inmate is allowed four visits per month.

Money Keys Infant Items

  • Up to $40 per inmate being visited (bring it as $1 bills and silver change)
  • Put the money in a clear container (for example, a plastic baggie or a clear coin purse)
  • Essential infant items only: 1 plastic bottle
  • Essential infant items only: 3 diapers
  • Leave these out: toys
  • Leave these out: glass baby food jars

Keep your keys simple. LSCC allows vehicle keys in the visiting room, but you're limited to one ignition key and one door key. Key chains aren't allowed. If you have a locker key, keep it separate and minimal so you're not carrying extra items that slow down check-in.

  1. Roll up your windows - Your vehicle must be secured while it’s parked on LSCC grounds.
  2. Lock the doors and lock the trunk - Do a quick pull on the handles and make sure the trunk is latched.
  3. Close and lock the sunroof - If your vehicle has one, it needs to be closed and locked.
  4. Recheck before you walk away - If your vehicle is found unsecured or you fail to follow these rules, your visit will be terminated immediately for that day.

Thinking about bringing something for the inmate? Don't. Visitors cannot bring items into the visiting room and hand them to an inmate without prior approval from the Warden. The safest plan: leave extra belongings in your locked car and walk in with only what LSCC specifically allows.

Warning: LSCC is tobacco-free. Possession or use of tobacco anywhere on site is prohibited. Don't bring items to hand to the inmate unless you already have Warden approval.

Keep jewelry and wearables to a minimum. LSCC allows one watch, one ring, and one pair of earrings. Smart watches aren't allowed, and neither are other mobile touchscreen devices designed to be worn on the wrist. Leave those in your locked car.
