Visiting with Children at Little Sandy: Rules Parents Need to Know

At Little Sandy Correctional Complex, children must stay under parental control for the entire visit. You're responsible for keeping kids close, calm, and following staff directions from check-in to departure. One rule catches families off guard: while infants ages 0–1 have different guidelines (covered below), all other children must stay seated or be held by the visiting parent or guardian. If your child is old enough to wander, plan ahead. Keep them in your space, or risk having your visit cut short.

Tip: Decide before you arrive who's supervising each child. At Little Sandy, kids must stay under your control - and anyone older than an infant needs to remain seated or be held by the visiting parent or guardian.

Little Sandy makes one exception for the youngest visitors: infants ages 0–1 may be held by the inmate during the visit. If you're bringing a baby in that age range, this rule allows that close contact.

Very young babies also get a paperwork break. Infants under six months may visit without a Social Security number, as long as the accompanying adult meets all visiting guidelines. If your baby falls in that window, registration is simpler - just make sure you're fully compliant yourself.

Little Sandy requires identification for children too. Kids must have two forms of ID - don't assume one document will be enough.

Two forms of ID is the general rule, but there's an exception for the youngest babies. Infants under six months can visit without a Social Security number, provided the accompanying adult meets all visiting guidelines. If you're relying on this exception, double-check your own paperwork so the baby's visit isn't held up.

  • Two forms of identification for each child visiting
  • If your baby is under six months: be ready to use the facility’s Social Security number exception, and make sure the accompanying adult meets all visiting guidelines
Visiting with Children at Little Sandy: Rules Parents Need to Know
  1. Get your own ID ready - Adult visitors must present a photo ID at check-in.
  2. Confirm each child has the required identification - Little Sandy requires two forms of identification for children.
  3. Use the under-six-month infant exception correctly - Infants under six months may visit without a Social Security number, as long as the person bringing them meets all visiting guidelines.
  • Two forms of identification for each child (so you’re not scrambling at check-in)
  • A simple plan for supervision (who is watching which child at all times)
  • Quiet, hands-on activities that help kids stay seated with you during the visit (since children other than infants must be seated or held by the visiting parent or guardian)

Reminder: Bring your photo ID for check-in and keep children under parental control throughout the visit. If either slips, your visit can get cut short fast.
