How Logan Correctional Center Now Handles Incoming Mail (scanning policy explained)
Sending letters or photos to someone at Logan Correctional Center? Here's the big change: most personal mail now gets scanned by the mailroom and delivered electronically.
The Illinois Department of Corrections now scans incoming non-privileged mail at Logan Correctional Center. Personal mail that qualifies for scanning is no longer delivered as physical paper - mailroom staff scan or photocopy it during intake.
Note: This policy is already in effect and applies to all non-privileged incoming mail.
- Mail is opened and inspected - Non-privileged mail received for an individual is opened and checked for contraband.
- Each item is scanned in color - Staff scan the front and back of the envelope and the contents (including letters, greeting cards, and photographs).
- Scans are saved as PDFs - The scanned images are turned into PDF documents.
- PDFs are uploaded to the Bulletin Board - The PDFs are uploaded to the individual’s Bulletin Board for tablet access.
- A tablet notification is sent - The individual receives a notification that new scanned documents are available to download and view on their tablet.
If your loved one doesn't have tablet access, Logan provides paper photocopies of their scanned mail instead.
