How to Mail a JPay Money Order to an Inmate at Louisiana Corr. Inst. (St. Gabriel): Step-by-Step + Troubleshooting

Mailing a JPay money order to someone at Louisiana Correctional Institute (St. Gabriel) is straightforward - fill out the deposit slip correctly, send only what JPay expects, and you're done. Here's exactly how to do it, plus what to know about larger amounts and how to fix issues that might delay or return your money order.

Start with the Louisiana DOC Money Order Deposit Slip. Type or print clearly in blue or black ink. Include the inmate's name and ID number on the deposit slip. On the money order itself, write the inmate's name and ID on the "memo" or "used for" line - this helps ensure it gets matched to the right person.

  • Inmate’s full name (Last, First)
  • Inmate’s ID number
  • Your first and last name (person making payment)
  • Your mailing address (complete and deliverable)
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address (valid and readable)

Note: Missing or hard-to-read fields can delay your deposit. Double-check everything is complete and legible before mailing.

Make the money order payable to JPay. Louisiana DOC specifically recommends using a U.S. Postal Service (USPS) money order. You don't need a JPay account to send a money order deposit.

Put the completed deposit slip and the money order together in one envelope, then mail it to: JPay PO Box 531370 Miami Shores, FL 33153

Important: Only include the deposit slip and the money order. Don’t add letters or notes - those will be discarded.

Once JPay receives and approves your money order, it will be processed within ten business days. Keep in mind that the clock starts after JPay has it in hand and the deposit clears approval.

Note: Money orders over $500 are subject to Louisiana Department of Corrections approval, which can delay when the funds post to your loved one’s account.

If JPay can't complete your deposit because something's wrong, they'll return it. The money order and deposit slip get mailed back to the address you wrote on the slip - so make sure that address is accurate and deliverable.

  1. Check the return envelope and your deposit slip - JPay sends the money order and slip back to the mailing address listed on your slip, so confirm you’re looking at the same paperwork you mailed.
  2. Fix missing or incorrect information - Refill the Louisiana DOC deposit slip neatly in blue or black ink and verify the inmate’s name and ID number are correct.
  3. Correct your contact details - Money orders won’t be processed without a valid email address and a valid mailing address on the form.
  4. Resend with a clean packet - Put only the corrected deposit slip and the money order in the envelope (no notes), then mail it again.

Need help filling out the form, or trying to figure out why your deposit was delayed or returned? Call JPay customer service at 800-574-5729. They can help you identify which detail on the deposit slip is causing the problem.
