Before Your First Visit to Lynchburg Regional JDC: What to Bring and What to Leave Behind
Your first visit will go much smoother if you show up with the right ID, the right number of people, and as few extra items as possible. Here's what you need to know to avoid delays at check-in.
To visit at Lynchburg Regional JDC, you must be the youth’s parent or legal guardian. If you are not a parent or legal guardian, plan on being turned away at the front desk.
Bring a photo ID. Staff will ask for identification before admitting you, so have it ready. A driver's license, state ID, or passport all work.
Reminder: Children cannot be left unsupervised in the lobby. If you bring kids, plan to keep them with you the entire time.
Travel light. Female visitors are asked to leave purses in the car, so bring only what fits in your pockets or can be carried by hand.
Outside food and drinks aren't allowed. Vending machines are available inside if you need something, and you can purchase up to two snacks and one drink.
Warning: Don't give anything directly to your child during the visit. Leave items in your car unless staff tells you otherwise.
You'll go through a metal detector before entering. Keep metal items to a minimum so the screening goes quickly.
- Arrive 15 minutes early. You are expected to sign in before the visit, and that check-in time includes security screening.
Figure out your group size before you go. Without pre-approval, only two visitors can be admitted on any visitation day.
CPP and Re-Entry visits are an exception. These visitors may bring up to four people, as long as everyone is pre-approved by the Department of Juvenile Justice.
No entry if impaired: Parents suspected of being intoxicated or under the influence of drugs will be denied admittance.
Keep it calm: Hostile, argumentative, or disruptive visitors will be asked to leave immediately.
