The New Tablets & GettingOut Accounts: What Families of Incarcerated People at Madison Need to Do Now
If your loved one is at Madison, the smartest thing you can do right now is set up your GettingOut account. That way, you'll be ready to message and send photos once the new tablets roll out across Indiana facilities.
To use the new tablet system for messages and photos, you'll need a GettingOut account - create one at gettingout.com. Indiana already started issuing the new Command 5.0 tablets at one facility on December 10, 2024, and the rest are scheduled for upgrades after the start of 2025. Set up your account now so you're not rushing to figure it out later.
Reminder: Create your GettingOut account now at gettingout.com so you’re ready to message and send photos through the new tablet system.
- Go to GettingOut on your device - On a computer, open your browser and type gettingout.com. If you prefer mobile, use the GettingOut app.
- Start account creation - Click Create Account and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Confirm your age - Enter your date of birth as requested and confirm.
- Fill in the required fields - Complete the sign-up form and submit it.
- Finish setup and save your login details - Once you’re back at the login screen, sign in so you’re ready to use messaging and photo features.
Here's the key change: messages and photos now go through GettingOut. You'll need to create a new account at gettingout.com to stay connected. Indiana State Prison got the updated tablets first (December 10, 2024), with other facilities following after the start of 2025. Get your account ready before Madison upgrades, and you won't miss a beat when the switch happens.
Heads up: During the changeover, older messages and photos may not transfer to the new tablets. Save anything important on your end, and be prepared to start fresh in GettingOut.
Most tablet services run on a pay-as-you-go model. Charges vary - some are per minute, others per item. Voice communication, for example, costs $0.33 per minute.
One thing to keep in mind: these tablets aren't like regular personal devices. They run on a secure, separate intranet with no access to the public internet. That's why features are more limited than what you'd expect from a typical tablet.

- ✓ The first pair of tablet headphones is provided to your loved one at no cost.
- ✓ Any additional or replacement headphones have to be purchased through commissary.
Even though your loved one gets assigned a tablet, it still belongs to the state. That means they can be held responsible if it's intentionally lost or damaged. If you're talking with them about the new device, remind them to take care of it - the consequences for damage or loss fall on them.
If your loved one wants to use pay-as-you-go services, you'll need a way to add funds. One option: send a money order by mail. Those funds can cover services that charge by the minute or by the item, like voice calls.
Getting the deposit right: Make money orders payable to TouchPay Holdings, LLC and mail them to TouchPay Holdings, LLC, PO Box 827, Houston, TX 77001-0827.
