Madison’s jewelry & personal‑items checklist: what to leave at home before visiting
Madison Corrections Institution (MaCI) is strict about what you can carry or wear inside. Use this checklist so you're not held up at the front entry.
Travel light. Phones aren't allowed into the compound, and neither are watches or fitness trackers (including Fitbits). For jewelry, MaCI permits only wedding rings or bands - no fashion rings. Leave cash, coins, debit cards, and wallets behind too.
You'll go through a security screening on the way in. Empty your pockets for inspection (turn them inside out if you can), then clear the metal detector before you're allowed entry.
The ring rule is straightforward: only wedding rings or bands are permitted. Anything else stays home.
Earrings must be basic studs or hoops. Anything larger than one inch will need to be removed so the Entry Officer can inspect it before you go in.
Bracelets: No bracelets of any kind are permitted, except silicone wristbands. If you wear a silicone wristband, it must be removed for inspection by the Entry Officer prior to entry.
Electronics Valuables
- ✓ Phone
- ✓ Cash
- ✓ Coins
- ✓ Debit card
- ✓ Wallet
- ✓ Watch (any kind)
- ✓ Fitness tracker/Fitbit (any kind)
These items can't come into the compound. If you want to breeze through the metal detector, leave your phone, wallet, debit card, cash, coins, and any watch or tracker in the car.
Clothing: Camouflage clothing of any kind is not permitted.
If you have a joint replacement or a pacemaker, bring medical documentation (like a medical card) with you to entry. Staff will use a trans‑frisker, and your documentation will be kept on file for future visits.
