What Your Loved One Can Keep in Their Cell at Mahoning County Jail

Once your loved one is assigned to a housing unit at the Mahoning County Justice Center, what they can keep with them is restricted. The jail provides basic necessities at intake: one jail uniform, one blanket, one towel, and one pair of slip-on shoes. They won't be starting with nothing - these core items come standard.

Beyond what the Justice Center provides, your loved one can keep items they purchase through commissary in their cell - within reason. That qualifier matters. Space is tight, and staff can restrict excess property even if it was purchased the right way.

2. Have your loved one identify who will handle their belongings - If property needs to be picked up because they’re sentenced or transferred, make sure they designate someone ahead of time.
3. Bring photo ID for any property pickup - The person picking up property should be prepared to show photo identification.
