Visiting with a Baby at Marion C.I.: What You Need to Know About Diaper Bags and Infant Items

Yes. Marion C.I. allows infant carriers in the visiting area, and you can bring a clear bag as a diaper bag. Just stick to permitted items and use a clear bag so staff can check it quickly at the entrance.

Note: Even permitted baby items - like an infant carrier and a clear diaper bag - are still subject to search when you enter.

  • A reasonable number of diapers and baby wipes
  • Up to three clear plastic baby bottles
  • Up to three clear plastic containers of baby food
  • One pacifier

Pack infant items in a clear diaper bag and stick to the limits. Show up with extra containers or items that don't fit the clear-bag setup, and you may have to haul them back to your car before you can go in.

Marion C.I. doesn't allow purses, handbags, backpacks, or similar items in the visiting area. Visiting with a baby? Use a clear bag as your diaper bag and keep it focused on permitted infant items - don't treat it like an extra purse.

Expect a normal entry screening - just with a few more moving parts. All visitors are subject to search, including anything you bring. Staff will check your infant carrier and clear diaper bag, so pack in a way that makes it easy to see and count what's inside.

Heads-up: Hairpins, underwire bras, certain boots and shoes, clothing with multiple zippers, and excessive jewelry can set off metal detectors and slow down entry.
