What to Wear (and Not Wear) When Visiting MCC Chicago — Quick Checklist
MCC Chicago can turn you away at the door for the wrong outfit. Use this quick checklist so you don't waste a trip.
Before picking out an outfit, confirm you're actually eligible to visit. You can only get in if the inmate has added you to their approved visiting list and the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) has cleared you. Once that's done, what you wear still matters. MCC Chicago enforces a dress code in the visiting room - show up in something considered provocative or revealing, and you'll be turned away at the door.

- ✓ Revealing shorts
- ✓ Halter tops
- ✓ Crop tops
- ✓ Bathing suits
- ✓ See-through garments of any type
- ✓ Low-cut blouses or dresses
- ✓ Backless tops
- ✓ Leotards, spandex, or miniskirts
- ✓ Hats or caps
- ✓ Skirts two inches or more above the knee
- ✓ Dresses or skirts with a high-cut split (back, front, or side)
- ✓ Clothing that looks like inmate clothing (khaki or green military-type clothing)
When in doubt, go conservative. Think: nothing tight, nothing sheer, nothing that looks like beachwear. Swap revealing shorts or a miniskirt for long pants or a knee-length skirt without a high slit. Pick a regular top with a modest neckline - skip halters, crop tops, low-cut, or backless styles. Watch your colors too: avoid khaki or green military-style clothing that could be mistaken for inmate attire. Keep it simple and modest, and you're far less likely to get stopped at the door.
- Confirm you were approved to visit - The inmate must have added you to their visiting list, and you must be cleared by the BOP.
- Re-check the visiting rules and hours - Dress code is enforced, and visiting procedures can trip people up if they changed.
- Follow up and reschedule - Contact the facility or the inmate to clarify what you need to fix before your next attempt.
