How to Send Mail to Someone at Metro Detention Center (Use the Smart Communications PO Box)
Metro Detention Center uses an off-site mail processor for regular postal mail. Your letter gets processed off site, scanned, and delivered digitally to the person in custody. This means your loved one won't hold the original paper letter. They'll view a scanned copy on password-protected kiosks or tablets inside the facility.
Note: Regular inmate postal mail - like postcards, letters, and greeting cards - is scanned and made available for inmates to view via kiosks.
Use this exact mailing address format (copy it verbatim and replace the example name/number with your person’s information): Smart Communications / Louisville Metro Corrections Adam Smith #123456 (Example Inmate) PO Box 9180 Seminole, FL 33775-9174
Write the inmate's full name and booking/ID number clearly on the outside of the envelope or postcard. Smart Communications uses this information to route the mail, and Metro Detention Center needs it to post the scanned copy to the correct account. Missing or illegible details mean your mail can't be matched properly. Double-check that the name and number are complete and easy to read before you drop it in the mailbox.
Mail Types
- ✓ Postcards
- ✓ Letters
- ✓ Greeting cards
Want to track what happens to your mail after it's processed? The facility mentions a free service called MailGuard (MailGuardTracker). You can use it to check delivery status, get notified if mail is rejected, and download copies of processed mail.
Some items don't fit the "regular postal mail" category. If you're sending something special - like marriage paperwork - or have a question you can't answer from the facility's information page, call the inmate information line at 502-574-8477. For marriage request paperwork specifically, send it directly to the facility (not the Smart Communications PO Box) and address it to the chaplain: Louisville Metro Corrections 400 S. Sixth Street Louisville, KY 40202 In care of: Chaplain Sam Whitlow
Note: Marriage request paperwork uses a different address than regular inmate mail - send it to Louisville Metro Corrections in care of Chaplain Sam Whitlow.
