What You Need to Know Before Your First Visit to Miami County Jail
Your first visit to Miami County Jail goes smoother when you know the rules upfront—how often you can visit, when the doors are open, and what might get you turned away.
Visits at Miami County Jail are short and structured. Each inmate gets one 20-minute visit per week. The jail offers visitation most days with set hours, but Wednesdays are off-limits. Plan to start your visit before 8 p.m. - that's the cutoff.

You'll need two things to get in: a valid photo ID and your name on the inmate's visitor list. Missing either one? You won't be allowed through.
Minors: Visitors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Visitation runs Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday is closed - no visits at all.
Even though visitation runs until 8:30 p.m., don't cut it close. Your visit must start before 8 p.m. Show up too late and you'll miss your window for the day.
- Pick a day that’s actually open - Visitation is available Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; there’s no visitation on Wednesday.
- Aim to start your visit before 8 p.m. - Visits must begin prior to 8 p.m., even though hours run until 8:30 p.m.
- Build in extra time - Give yourself enough cushion so you’re not trying to start right at the cutoff.
Take the rules seriously once you're inside. Misconduct during visitation can get your privileges revoked immediately - and the ban can last indefinitely. When in doubt, stay calm and follow staff directions.
Warning: Any misconduct during visitation can lead to immediate loss of visitation privileges for an undetermined amount of time.
Here's one rule that catches families off guard: if you've been incarcerated at Miami County Jail within the last 60 days, you can't visit. The only exception is for immediate family - parents, siblings, spouses, or children.
