Free on-site vs. paid off-site video visits at Miami County Jail — what families should know

Miami County Jail offers two video visitation options through ICSolutions: free on-site visits at the Troy facility and paid off-site visits you can do from home. The right choice depends on cost, how often you want to visit, and whether you have the tech setup for an at-home call.

Free on-site vs. paid off-site video visits at Miami County Jail — what families should know

Miami County Jail uses video visitation with two options. On-site visits happen at the Miami County Incarceration Facility at 2042 N CR 25A, Troy, Ohio - and they're free for both you and the inmate. Off-site visits let you connect from home using your own device, but they come with fees. One detail that catches many families off guard: ICSolutions sets the off-site rates, not the Miami County Sheriff's Office.

Note: Off-site video visit fees are determined by ICSolutions, not the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.

Free on-site vs. paid off-site video visits at Miami County Jail — what families should know

Planning to use the free on-site option? Know the limits upfront. You get one 30-minute video visit per week. Group visits are allowed, but the room holds a maximum of four visitors at once - children included.

  • Arrive about 10 minutes early; if you’re late, your appointment time won’t be extended.
  • Schedule ahead: all video visits are by appointment only.
  • Hours run Monday–Sunday, 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM (including holidays).

Before you can schedule: You must set up an account and be approved before booking any on-site video visit.

For off-site visits from home, you'll need a computer or an Apple/Android smartphone or tablet, high-speed internet, and a webcam. If your connection is spotty or your camera unreliable, test your setup before paying for a visit.

Off-site visits offer convenience, but they're not free. ICSolutions sets the rates - not the Miami County Sheriff's Office. That's worth knowing if you're comparing costs or wondering who controls pricing.

  1. Cancel at least 24 hours ahead - ICSolutions requires cancellations at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time, or a charge will be incurred.
  2. Handle refunds through ICSolutions - if you’re owed a refund, it must be processed through ICSolutions.

Reminder: You must set up an account and be approved before you can schedule any off-site video visit.

If budget is your main concern, the choice is straightforward: on-site visits are free. The trade-off? You're limited to one 30-minute visit per week, which can feel restrictive if you want to check in more often. Off-site visits let you go beyond that weekly limit - helpful for families juggling work, childcare, or transportation. Just keep in mind that availability depends on scheduling, so you may not always land your preferred time.

  • If you want a no-cost option, choose the on-site video visit at the facility.
  • If you want to visit from home, make sure you have a computer or Apple/Android phone/tablet with high-speed internet and a webcam.
  • If your schedule changes easily, keep the off-site cancellation rule in mind: cancel at least 24 hours ahead to avoid a charge, and handle any refunds through ICSolutions.
