How Miami County Jail's ICSolutions Digital Mail works (what you can send and how)

Miami County Jail doesn't accept personal mail directly. Everything goes to the ICSolutions Digital Mail Center first. If your mail meets the requirements, staff scan it and deliver it electronically - the person you're writing can view it through the eMessaging/DMC app on their tablet or at a kiosk. One thing that trips people up: your envelope needs a clear return name and address. Miss this detail, and your mail comes right back. Take an extra moment to write (or print) your return info clearly before dropping anything in the mailbox.

S2

  • Paper items only for scanning (letters, photos, drawings, and similar paper mail)
  • Keep everything at or under 8.5 x 11 inches (anything larger won’t be accepted for scanning)
  • Do not include non-paper items (they won’t be accepted for scanning)

Want to send reading material? Miami County Jail only accepts paperback books by mail - shipped from somewhere like Amazon, not handed over during a visit. Include a receipt with the book. Expect inspection. Staff review and search all books, and anything with staples gets rejected. Also worth knowing: when someone is released, their books become property of the jail library.

S3

  • Packages (not accepted; returned to sender)
  • Certified mail (not accepted; returned to sender)
  • Checks (not accepted; returned to sender)
  • Money orders (not accepted; returned to sender)
  • Publications of any kind (no longer accepted as mail)

Legal mail is the exception. It still goes directly to the Miami County facility - don't route it through the digital mail process.

  1. Write a clear return name and address on the envelope - if you leave this off or it’s incomplete, your mail can be returned to you.
  2. Include a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage - this is required if you want the Digital Mail Center to send your original items back after scanning.
  3. Decide whether you’re okay with the originals being discarded - if you don’t include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with enough postage, the mail will be discarded instead of returned.

S5

  • Put your return name and full return address on every envelope you send.
  • If you want originals back after scanning, include a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage - otherwise the items will be discarded.
  • For paperback books, send them by mail only (for example, shipped from a retailer like Amazon) and include the receipt.
