On-site vs. remote video visits at Miami County Jail: which is right for you?

Miami County Jail offers video visitation both on-site and remotely. Your best option depends on two things: whether you can get to the facility, and whether you'd rather save money with the free on-site option or pay for the convenience of visiting from home.

On-site vs. remote video visits at Miami County Jail: which is right for you?

On-site video visits happen at the Miami County Incarceration Facility, 2042 N CR 25A, Troy, Ohio. The biggest perk? They're completely free for both you and the person you're visiting.

A few practical limits apply to on-site visits. Only four visitors (including children) can join at once, so you may need to take turns if your group is larger. Also worth knowing: all video visits - whether on-site or remote - are recorded and may be monitored.

Offsite Requirements Fees

  • A computer, or an Apple/Android smartphone or tablet
  • High-speed internet
  • A webcam

Remote video visits let you connect from anywhere, but they come with fees. ICSolutions sets and collects those charges - not the Miami County Sheriff's Office. One thing that catches people off guard: prepaid accounts (like the ones used for inmate phone calls) don't work for ICSolutions video visitation.

Need help scheduling or registering? Contact ICSolutions Visitation Support at 888-646-9437 or customer@ICSolutions.com.

On-site visits have a firm weekly cap. You're allowed one 30-minute visit per week at the facility.

Remote visits offer more flexibility. You may be able to schedule more than one per week - helpful if you want to stay in closer contact. The catch: extra visits depend on available time slots, so you won't always get the schedule you're hoping for.

Note: Inmate workers may be allowed extended visits (up to one hour) during regular visitation hours.

Pick on-site visits if you can travel to 2042 N CR 25A in Troy and want to avoid fees. Go with remote visits if the trip is difficult, or if you want to connect more than once a week. Just make sure you have reliable internet and a webcam - and keep in mind that ICSolutions sets the pricing.

Both visit types require appointments. Before scheduling anything, you'll need to create an ICSolutions account and get approved. Have a valid government-issued ID ready.

Booked a paid remote visit? Watch the cancellation policy. ICSolutions requires at least 24 hours' notice to avoid being charged. Refunds and disputes go through ICSolutions directly - not the Sheriff's Office - and they only issue refunds when a technical problem on their end prevented the visit.

For on-site visits, arrive about ten minutes early. Show up late and you'll lose that time - your appointment won't be extended.
