What to know before your on-site visit to Miami County Jail: timing, dress code, and rules

On-site visits at Miami County Jail are by appointment only - you'll need a scheduled time before showing up. Arrive about 10 minutes early. If you're late, the jail will still hold your slot, but they won't extend it past the scheduled end time. Arriving early protects your full visit.

Good to know: On-site video visitation at the Miami County Incarceration Facility is free for both visitors and inmates.

Keep your group size small. Miami County Jail limits on-site video visitation to a maximum of four visitors at one time - and that headcount includes children.

There’s also a weekly limit. If you’re using the on-site video visitation option, you’re permitted one 30-minute on-site visit per week.

Dress code is one of the most common reasons visits get turned away. Miami County Jail requires visitors to be properly attired, and clothing that staff deem inappropriate can result in your video visit being denied.

  • See-through clothing of any kind
  • Low-cut clothing that exposes the chest
  • Clothing that inappropriately exposes undergarments

Reminder: These are examples, not the whole list - staff decide what counts as inappropriate apparel, and they can deny a visit based on what you’re wearing.

Don’t attempt a visit if you’ve been drinking or using drugs. Visitors who are believed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to complete a video visit. Alcohol or drug use during the visit is also prohibited.

Smoking isn't allowed during visitation at Miami County Jail. And don't even think about sneaking a drink during the session - consuming alcohol or drugs during the visit is prohibited and will end your visit early.

What to know before your on-site visit to Miami County Jail: timing, dress code, and rules

Even if you've followed all the rules, the jail has broad discretion over visitation. Miami County Jail administration can terminate, suspend, or deny a video visitation - or your visitation privileges entirely - at any time.

  1. Dress conservatively - If staff deem your apparel inappropriate, your video visit can be denied (including things like see-through clothing, low-cut tops that expose the chest, or clothing that exposes undergarments).
  2. Arrive sober and stay sober - If staff believe you’re under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you won’t be permitted to complete the visit. Consuming alcohol or drugs during the visit is prohibited, too.
  3. Know the stakes if rules are violated - A visit can be denied, ended, or your visitation privileges can be suspended, since the jail administration reserves the right to terminate, suspend, or deny visitation at any time.
