Why your Miami County Jail video visit might get terminated — and how to avoid it
A Miami County Jail video visit can end early—even if you're only a few minutes in. The most common reasons? Recording or tech violations, disruptive behavior, or clothing that staff won't allow on camera.
Every video visit at Miami County Jail - whether on-site or off-site - is recorded and may be monitored in real time. Staff watch for rule violations, and they can end a call quickly if something's off.
The jail records your visit, but you can't. Miami County Jail prohibits visitors from using cameras, video devices, or any recording equipment to capture the session - before, during, or after. This applies to both on-site and off-site visits. If staff think you're trying to record, expect the call to get cut.
Sometimes visits end because of behavior, not connection issues. Miami County Jail can deny or terminate a video visit if they believe you're under the influence of alcohol or drugs - including consuming during the call. Loud talking, excessive emotionalism, or disruptive behavior can also get your visit cut short. Keep your voice down and stay steady. There's also a hard line on sexual content: nudity or sexual conduct is prohibited and can result in losing your visitation privileges entirely.
What you wear matters too. Staff can deny or end your visit if your clothing is considered inappropriate. Specifically, they flag see-through clothing, low-cut tops that expose the chest, and anything that shows undergarments.
Important: Miami County Jail administration can terminate, suspend, or deny a video visitation (or visitation privileges) at any time if they determine a rule violation has occurred.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Assume your visit is recorded and may be monitored, and act like staff can see and hear everything clearly.
- ✓ Don’t use any additional cameras, video devices, telecommunications, or recording devices to record or duplicate the visit (on-site or off-site).
- ✓ Don’t start a visit if you’ve been drinking or using drugs, and don’t consume alcohol or drugs during the session.
- ✓ Keep the environment calm: avoid loud talking, excessive emotionalism, and anything that could be seen as disruptive.
- ✓ Keep it fully non-sexual: no nudity and no sexual conduct.
- ✓ Dress conservatively - avoid see-through clothing, low-cut tops that expose the chest, and anything that exposes undergarments.
Using the on-site video option? Arrive about ten minutes early. If you're late, your appointment won't be extended - you'll just lose those minutes. Also plan your group: on-site visits are free, but you're limited to four visitors at a time, including children.
- Write down what happened right away - note the date/time of the visit and what was going on right before it ended (for example, noise in the room, clothing concerns, or anything that could be interpreted as recording).
- Contact the Miami County Sheriff’s Office/jail administration about rules or visitation status - if you think the termination was tied to a rule issue or you’re worried about privileges being suspended, the jail is the place to ask about the rule and what it means going forward.
- Handle off-site charges and refunds through ICSolutions - if money is involved, cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled off-site video visit or you’ll be charged. And if a scheduled off-site visit wasn’t held, ICSolutions does not issue refunds unless a technical difficulty is proven.
Reminder: Refunds and funding disputes for off-site video visits go through ICSolutions - not the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
