Middlesex Jail: How the August 1, 2024 Securus Digital Mail Change Works (Where to Send Letters)

Starting August 1, 2024, the Middlesex Sheriff's Office routes all personal (non-privileged) mail through Securus Technologies. Instead of mailing letters directly to the jail, you'll send them to the Securus Digital Mail Center.

Here's how it works: Securus opens your letter, scans it, and delivers it digitally to the Middlesex Sheriff's Office. Your loved one sees the contents on a screen - they won't receive the original paper letter.

What Is Converted Exemptions

  • Personal, non-privileged mail is part of the Securus digital mail program (sent to Securus for scanning).
  • Privileged and legal correspondence is not part of the digital mail program and will still be accepted through the postal service.
  • Publications sent directly from a publisher or authorized retailer are not part of the digital mail program and will still be accepted through the postal service.

Address your envelope with the incarcerated person's full name (and ID number if you have it), then the Securus line and Tampa P.O. box: Inmate Name & ID # C/O Securus Digital Mail Center - Middlesex PO Box 25555 Tampa, FL 33622

Note: Put a handwritten return address in the top-left corner, and don’t write or place anything else on the outside of the envelope.

Once Securus receives your letter, they open and scan it into digital files for the Middlesex Sheriff's Office. The originals are held for 60 days, then destroyed.

  1. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope - This is how you request that your original physical correspondence be returned.
  2. Write your return address by hand (top-left corner) - A handwritten return address is required, and it helps keep your mail from getting kicked back for envelope issues.
  3. Keep the outside of the envelope clean - Don’t write or place anything else on the outside besides what’s required for addressing and return delivery.

Postage and Addressing Tips

  • Use enough postage; if postage is insufficient, the Post Office will return the envelope to you.
  • Put a handwritten return address on the top-left corner of the envelope.
  • Don’t write or place anything else on the outside of the envelope.
