How to Contact an Inmate at Milwaukee Secure Denetion Facility (MI)
Trying to connect with someone at Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility (MSDF)? The biggest thing to know: video visits are handled through ICSolutions, not scheduled by MSDF staff.
Video visits at MSDF are scheduled through ICSolutions. You can book online through the ICSolutions website or by phone at 1-888-506-8407. Even if you call MSDF directly, staff won't schedule video visits for you. You'll still need to go through ICSolutions.
Plan ahead. Video visits must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance and no more than 4 weeks out from the visit date and time. MSDF allows up to three 26-minute video visits per person in our care (PIOC) per day, seven days a week, as long as slots are available.
Most video visits cost money. As of June 19, 2023, visits at MSDF are $2.50 each, though every PIOC still gets one free video visit per week. You can connect from your own device or use one of five devices available in the MSDF lobby. If you're using your own phone, tablet, or computer, you're responsible for maintaining a solid internet or Wi‑Fi connection during the call.
Keep this handy: The PIOC needs to give approved visitors their specific Party ID and the exact spelling of the name on the visitor application. If your information doesn't match, scheduling can get stuck.
Attorney calls: Calls from a PIOC to attorneys must be made collect. To add, delete, or update an attorney's contact information, the PIOC must complete form DOC-21631.
Steps to Follow
- ✓ Schedule your video visit through ICSolutions (online or by calling 1-888-506-8407).
- ✓ Pick a time at least 48 hours away, and no more than 4 weeks out.
- ✓ Do not rely on MSDF staff to schedule it for you. MSDF staff do not schedule video visits.
- ✓ Plan for a 26-minute visit, and remember the PIOC can have up to three video visits per day (subject to availability).
- ✓ Budget for $2.50 per visit, and ask the PIOC which visit will be their free one for the week.
- ✓ Choose your setup: your own device (with solid internet/Wi‑Fi) or one of the five lobby devices at MSDF.
- Get your Party ID and exact name spelling from the PIOC: The PIOC must provide approved visitors their specific Party ID and the spelling of the name submitted on the visitor application.
- Handle attorney contact details the right way: Attorney calls are collect, and the PIOC must use DOC-21631 to add, delete, or update an attorney’s phone number or address.
Before you schedule, double-check that you have the current ICSolutions contact info for MSDF. It's also smart to confirm the current price per visit and the free-visit policy, since fees can change (the $2.50 rate is listed as effective June 19, 2023).
Confirm the scheduling window (48 hours to 4 weeks out) and daily limits (up to three 26-minute visits per day per PIOC). Planning to use a lobby device? Verify availability when you arrive, since MSDF only lists five. If you're using your own device, make sure your internet or Wi‑Fi connection is strong enough to hold steady for the full call.
Ask the PIOC how they'll share your Party ID and the exact spelling of your name as submitted on the visitor application. You may need both to schedule correctly. For attorney-related contacts, confirm that the collect-call requirement and the DOC-21631 update process are still current.
