The new mail system took effect on November 19, 2025. Instead of sending letters directly to the jail, most incoming mail now routes through a central processing facility first. The goal is to reduce contraband.

Mohave County also offers an Inmate Messaging option through NCIC. If you want a more direct way to send messages, pictures, or documents, this system handles that kind of communication.

For mail going through central processing, use this exact format on the envelope: Inmate Name, Name#, Mohave County Adult Detention Facility, PO BOX 591, Longview, Texas 75606. The inmate's name and Name# are critical. If either is missing or wrong, your mail is more likely to be delayed or rejected.

Warning: Mail sent to PO BOX 591 (Longview, Texas 75606) for processing will not be returned or released. After it is processed, it will be destroyed.

Sending letters, printed photos, or documents to the PO Box? Keep the paper size standard. Only mail within 8.5 inches wide by 11 inches tall is accepted for scanning.

There's also a page limit: five pages or fewer. The policy says anything over five pages will be returned, but the facility also warns that PO Box mail may not be returned at all. The safest approach? Only send what you're willing to lose, and keep it under five pages.

What Not to Send

  • Books (send directly to the facility where the inmate is housed, not the PO Box)
  • Magazines (send directly to the facility where the inmate is housed, not the PO Box)
  • Newspapers (send directly to the facility where the inmate is housed, not the PO Box)
  • Bulk mail (send directly to the facility where the inmate is housed, not the PO Box)

Want to skip the risks of mailing to a processing center? Use the NCIC Inmate Messaging system (NCIC.com) to send messages, pictures, and documents electronically. Messages cost $0.25 each. Pictures and documents cost $0.35 per item. This option works well when you want your loved one to receive something quickly without worrying about paper size or page counts.

Practical Checklist

  • Address the envelope exactly as required: Inmate Name, Name# , Mohave County Adult Detention Facility, PO BOX 591, Longview, Texas 75606

  • Stay at five pages or fewer
  • Do not send books, magazines, newspapers, or bulk mail to the PO Box (send those to the facility where the inmate is housed instead)
  • If you want a digital option, use NCIC Inmate Messaging for messages, pictures, and documents
