How to find someone at Montgomery County Regional Jail (KY) using KOOL

KOOL is Kentucky's online offender lookup tool. It helps you locate someone in the system - but use it responsibly. KOOL warns that any misuse of the information presented on the website to harass an offender is a criminal offense punishable by law.

You'll see fields for offender information (like name) and options for sorting or narrowing results. The goal: find a match you recognize, then use the details to confirm it's the right person.

Start simple. KOOL's own advice is to "enter as little information as needed to get a match" - adding extra fields can accidentally filter out the person you're looking for. Not sure about spelling or whether they use a middle name? Try just the last name first. Add the first name only if you're getting too many results.

1. Check your spelling - A small typo is enough to return zero matches.
2. Click RESET DATA - KOOL specifically directs you to use the RESET DATA button when your search returns no results.
3. Re-enter your search with minimal fields - Put in as little information as needed, then run the search again.

When KOOL returns a match, pay attention to the Offender PID (Person ID). KOOL defines the PID as a number (up to 7 digits) used to uniquely identify the offender within the system - also called an Offender ID. It's the best way to distinguish the right person from others with similar names.

Found the right listing? Write down the Offender PID and the location shown. Having that PID makes it easy to verify you're looking at the correct record later - especially helpful when there are aliases or multiple people with the same name.
