During regular business hours, bonds go through the Clerk's office. That's Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Need to post bond after hours or on a weekend? You don't have to wait until Monday. Head to the detention center and post at the lobby window.

Bring cash - exact change only. The jail doesn't accept cards, and they won't make change at the window.

Fees

  • $25 non-refundable bond fee - all bonds are subject to an additional $25.00 fee, and it is non-refundable.
  • $5 jail fee (when the bond is executed by the jail) - if the bond is executed by the jail, there is an additional $5.00 jail fee.

A partially secured bond works differently than paying the full amount. You'll put down a cash deposit equal to 10% of the bond (minimum $5). That deposit may be retained if the defendant is found guilty and the court determines release conditions were met. If the person fails to appear as required, the entire cash bond can be forfeited.

Note: With a partially secured bond, the deposit isn’t guaranteed to come back. It may be retained after a guilty finding, and it can be forfeited if the defendant doesn’t appear in court.

Signing as a surety? You'll need to meet specific requirements. You must be a Kentucky resident with a valid driver's license or Kentucky ID, at least 18 years old, and employed. You also can't have pending or convicted felony charges, and you can't be the defendant or a co-defendant in the case.

Heads up: Bring a valid Kentucky ID, and don’t assume you’ll qualify if you have pending or past felony charges. Those issues can stop a bond from being accepted.

Some bonds can't be handled at the jail window. Cash bonds over $10,000 and property bonds must go through the Circuit/County Clerk's office, depending on the case.
