What You Can (and Absolutely Cannot) Send in the Mail to Multi County Jail

Regular mail to inmates at Multi County Jail (MCCC) - letters and cards - doesn't go to the jail itself. You need to send it to Smart Communications, where it gets scanned and uploaded into the SmartJailMail system: Smart Communications – Multi-County Correctional Center, PO Box 9124, Seminole, FL 33775-9124. The exception? Legal mail from courts, government agencies, or attorneys still goes directly to the facility.

  • Clearly print the inmate’s name and ID number on the outside of the envelope or postcard, or it will be returned to sender.

Here's the quick breakdown: letters and cards go through Smart Communications. Legal mail goes directly to the jail. Photos are allowed but screened for content. Books, newspapers, and magazines? Not accepted - by mail or in person. Law books are the only exception, and even those have specific requirements.

Photos are allowed but subject to approval. MCCC rejects images with nudity or partial nudity, gang signs or references, violence, crude sexual content, or alcohol. Printed material with profanity or references to drugs, violence, or gangs can also be rejected. Keep photos clean and straightforward.

Planning to send reading material? This is where most people run into problems. MCCC doesn't accept books, newspapers, or magazines - not through the mail, not dropped off in person. Law books are the only exception.

  • Send law books only if they come directly from the publisher or a reliable retailer (for example: barnesandnoble.com, amazon.com, thriftbooks.com, walmart.com).
  • Make sure the book is paperback (hardcovers aren’t accepted).
  • Include the inmate’s name, and have the order shipped directly to the facility street address.

Approved law books ship to: 1514 Victory Road, Marion, Ohio 43302. Make sure the order includes the inmate's name and ships directly from the vendor - otherwise it'll likely be rejected.

Legal mail works differently. While personal letters and cards must go through Smart Communications, the jail accepts legal mail directly when it comes from courts, government agencies, or attorneys.

Pre-mail Checklist

  • Write the inmate’s name and ID number clearly on the outside of the envelope or postcard so it doesn’t get returned.
  • Don’t include photos (or any printed content) with nudity/partial nudity, gang signs/suggestions, violence, alcohol, profane content, or references to drugs, violence, or gangs.
  • Don’t mail or drop off newspapers, magazines, or regular books - MCCC won’t accept them.
  • If you’re sending a law book, order it as a paperback and have it shipped directly from the publisher or a reliable retailer, with the inmate’s name on the order.
  • If you’re trying to send a Bible, it must come from an MCCC-approved clergy person, and it must be new and paperback.
