Two Ways to Pay for Phone Calls from IDOC: Friends & Family Prepaid vs. Commissary Minutes

1 min read Verified from official sources

Want to cover the cost of phone calls from someone in Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) custody? One approved option is an ICSolutions Friends & Family prepaid account. You create the account under your name, add funds, and calls from the person in custody draw from that balance.

Here's a tip when registering for an ICSolutions account: if you have a GTL Visitor ID, enter it during registration. According to IDOC, this can help speed up the approval process.

The other approved method is funding the person's trust (commissary) account, then letting them purchase phone minutes through commissary. This works well if you'd rather put money on their account and let them decide when to buy minutes and place calls.

Help line: For collect or prepaid collect phone information, call ICSolutions at 888-506-8407.

IDOC's domestic ICSolutions rate is $0.008 per minute (down from $0.009 per minute). Before adding money to a prepaid account or funding commissary minutes, check IDOC's official rate information for current pricing and any fees. Rates can change over time.
