How to Visit Facility
Visiting someone at Murphysboro Re-Entry Life Skills takes a little prep, especially your first time. Follow the steps below to make sure you have the right ID, the right paperwork, and nothing that will get you turned away at the door.
Arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled visit time. That buffer gives you time to get through check-in without feeling rushed or risking a denial for being late.
Warning: Electronic devices (including cell phones, tablets, and smart watches), food, drink, smoking materials, currency, packages, purses, bags, books, magazines, sunglasses, and personal keys are not permitted inside the Visiting Room.
Small lockers are available in the Visiting Center if you show up with items you cannot bring inside. Keep your belongings minimal so everything fits.
First-time adult visitors must complete a Prospective Visitor's Interview (PVI) form (DOC 0148). The exception: you already received approval through the electronic PVI process.
Adults need to show photo ID and proof of date of birth. Visitors under 18 do not need a photo ID.
Dress code: Dress appropriately or your visit can be denied. Clothing that is sexually explicit, offensive, degrading, or linked to a Security Threat Group will cause problems at check-in.
- Arrive early: Get there at least 10 minutes before your scheduled visit time.
- Bring the required ID information (adults): You will need photo identification and verification of your date of birth.

Before you go, confirm a few details that could affect entry: whether the electronic PVI exception applies to you, what counts as acceptable photo ID and date-of-birth verification for adults, how strictly the dress code is enforced, and the current prohibited items list.
Also verify locker availability and size limits so you know what you can actually store. Double-check timing expectations to make sure arriving 10 minutes early is enough.
