What to Bring (and What to Leave in the Car) for a Visit at Muskingum County Jail
You'll need to show a photo ID every time you visit Muskingum County Jail. Accepted forms include a valid driver's license, government-issued photo ID (passport or active military ID work), valid temporary driver's license, or an Ohio I.D. card from the Ohio BMV.
There's also an age requirement. Visitors must be 18 or older - or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Bringing a minor who isn't your child? Be ready to show proof of guardianship.
No exceptions: Food stamp ID cards and damaged/broken ID cards are not accepted for visitation.
The dress code applies to everyone, including kids. Wear a full-length shirt and shoes. If you don't meet the requirements, you won't be allowed to visit.
Dress to avoid a denial: Revealing or provocative clothing can get you turned away - if you don’t meet the dress code, you won’t be allowed to visit.
Leave in Vehicle
- ✓ Hats
- ✓ Purses
- ✓ Wallets
- ✓ Handbags
- ✓ Cell phones
- ✓ Keys
Before you head inside, double-check that prohibited items are secured in your car. Having something you shouldn't can slow down check-in - or worse. Staff can also end your visit if you refuse search procedures or appear under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Go in ready to follow directions from the start.
Contraband and Consequences
- ✓ Cellular phones or other communication devices
- ✓ Intoxicants
- ✓ Drugs
- ✓ Weapons
- ✓ Weapon parts
- ✓ Ammunition (any type)
Legal risk: Bringing or attempting to convey prohibited items into the visitation area can result in criminal prosecution under Ohio Revised Code 2921.36.
Even with the right ID and clothing, your visit can still be cut short. A shift supervisor or officer-in-charge may end it if you appear under the influence, refuse search procedures, arrive more than 10 minutes late, can't produce valid ID, falsify information, bring prohibited items into the visitation area, or have a history of disruptive behavior at the facility.
