What You Can and Can't Bring to a Visit at Muskingum County Jail

Visiting at Muskingum County Jail goes a lot smoother when you show up with the right ID, the right clothes, and nothing extra in your hands. Use the checklists below to avoid getting turned away at the door or having your visit cut short.

  • Skip tank tops, spaghetti straps, muscle shirts, pajamas, tube tops, see-through clothing, tight-fitting clothing, and bare midriffs (this applies to both males and females)
  • If you do not meet the dress code, visitation will not be permitted

Bring a photo ID to every visit at Muskingum County Jail. Accepted options: a valid driver's license, a government-issued photo ID (passport, active military ID), a valid temporary driver's license, or a valid Ohio ID card from the Ohio BMV.

Watch out: Food stamp ID cards and broken ID cards will not be accepted for visitation. No exceptions.

Certain items are treated as contraband in the visitation area at Muskingum County Jail. Cell phones and other communication devices are not allowed. Neither are intoxicants, drugs, weapons, weapon parts, or ammunition of any type.

Legal risk: Bringing prohibited items into the visitation area can result in criminal prosecution under Ohio Revised Code 2921.36.

Even after you clear check-in, the Jail Shift Supervisor or Officer-in-Charge can end your visit at any time. Common reasons include appearing under the influence of drugs or alcohol, refusing the facility's search procedures, or checking in more than 10 minutes past your scheduled time. You can also lose your visit for refusing or failing to show sufficient ID, falsifying information, bringing prohibited items into the visitation area, or having a history of being disruptive at the Corrections Center.

Visitors under 18 can't come alone. You must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and proof of guardianship is required.
