Before You Drive to New Haven CC: Check-In and What to Bring

Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled visit to give yourself time to check in. Show up late, and your visit could be cut short - or canceled entirely. The facility runs on a strict schedule. One more thing: don't drive over on a Connecticut state-observed holiday. Visits aren't held on New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, or Christmas.

Bring a valid photo ID. No ID, no visit - double-check you have it before you leave home.

Dress appropriately. New Haven CC requires proper attire, and staff can turn you away at check-in if your outfit doesn't meet the rules. When in doubt, go simple and conservative.

Visits are currently limited to 30 minutes (until further notice). The facility uses that time limit to allow for disinfecting before and after each visit. Plan your conversation with that shorter window in mind.

New Haven CC allows up to two in-person visits per week per inmate. Video visits are limited to one per week and must be pre-scheduled using a Visit Request Form. Good news: as of December 2, 2024, in-person visits no longer need to be pre-scheduled. Before you schedule any visit, make sure you're on the inmate's approved, active visiting list. And if you're booking a visit that requires confirmation, remember: it's not official until you hear back from the facility. Check your email - including your junk or spam folder - for that confirmation message.
