What to Bring (and What to Leave Home) for Your Visit to New Haven Correction Center

Every adult entering needs a valid photo ID. Staff check identification at the door - no valid ID, no entry.

  • If your visitor is under 16: a valid birth certificate
  • One additional document with the child’s name (for example, a report card or Social Security card)

Arrive at least 15 minutes early to check in and complete screening. Cut it too close, and your visit may be shortened or canceled entirely.

Leave electronics behind: Cell phones and other devices aren't allowed inside. Leave them at home or secured in your car.

During authorized contact visits, limited physical contact is allowed - a brief embrace and kiss at the start and end. Keep it quick and follow staff direction to avoid interruptions.

Non-contact visits are recorded. Assume everything you say and do is captured, and keep your conversation appropriate.

Skip state-observed holidays - no visits on New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Lincoln's Birthday, Washington's Birthday, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day.

Plan for a short visit: Visits are capped at 30 minutes (until further notice) to allow time for disinfecting between sessions.
