How to Create Your TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler Account (avoid the common pitfalls)

Start here: https://visitation.tdcj.texas.gov/Visitation/startLoginAction.action. This is where you'll create a new account or log in to manage existing visits.

Quick eligibility check before you begin: the TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler only works for residents of the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Heads up: You have to create your own TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler account. TDCJ staff can’t create a visitor account for you - they can only help with updates (like names and addresses) after an account already exists.

Don’t rush your email choice: Once you create an account with an email address, that account can’t be deleted and the email address can’t be changed. Use an email you’ll keep long-term and can reliably access.

  1. Open the scheduler and start account creation - On the login page, click Create an Account.
  2. Enter your email and submit - Type a valid email address you want tied to the account, then click Submit.
  3. Check your email for the registration message - TDCJ will email you a 7-digit validation code and a link you must use to complete registration.
  4. Click the link in the email - The link takes you back to the scheduler to continue.
  5. Re-enter your email and the 7-digit code - You’ll be prompted to type your email address again and enter the 7-digit key from the email.
  6. Create your password and submit - After your email and code are accepted, you’ll create a password and finish that part of registration.

Reminder: The email you submit is the one you’re stuck with - TDCJ won’t let you change it later, and the account can’t be deleted. Make sure you can access the validation email (with the 7-digit code and link) before you move on.

Once you submit your password, you'll land on the Background Questionnaire. Every question is mandatory - you can't skip anything or move forward until it's complete.

Password issues trip people up, especially when rushing through setup. If you've already created an account but can't remember your password, click Forgot Password/Reset Password. You'll get an email with reset instructions.

When building your visitor profile, expect to complete everything before moving on. The Background Questionnaire is fully required, and staff can't set up your account for you - that's on you to finish.

Phone number format trap: Enter your telephone number as XXX XXX XXXX using spaces (no dashes). If you type dashes, the system can reject the entry.

Common Problems

  • If you didn’t get the validation email, check your spam/junk folder and confirm you entered your email address correctly when you clicked Submit.
  • Remember the system sends a message with a 7-digit validation code and a link - without that email, you can’t complete registration.
  • Before you try again with a different email, pause: once an email is used to create an account, the account can’t be deleted and the email can’t be changed.
  • If you forgot your password or need a reset, click Forgot Password/Reset Password and follow the reset steps sent to you by email.
  • If your phone number won’t save, retype it as XXX XXX XXXX with spaces and no dashes, then submit again.

One more thing: the scheduler is only available to residents of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. If you live elsewhere, you won't be able to use it to book visits.
