Phone-Only Visitor Privileges: Do You Have to Pay the $25 Fee?

Want to receive phone calls from someone at ASPC Perryville (San Carlos Unit) without visiting in person? The $25 background-check fee is usually the first concern. Here's the short answer—plus what you'll still need to do to get approved.

Phone-Only Visitor Privileges: Do You Have to Pay the $25 Fee?

No. If you’re applying for phone-only privileges (meaning you only want to accept phone calls from an inmate), you do not have to pay the $25 background check fee.

Note: Even though phone-only applicants don’t pay the $25 fee, a criminal background check is still done on everyone who applies for visitation or phone call privileges.

You still have to apply. Phone-only privileges aren’t automatic - you’ll use the regular Application to Visit an Inmate, but you’re applying for phone privileges rather than in-person visits.

Your application kicks off the screening process. Criminal background checks are run on everyone - whether you're applying for in-person visits or phone-only privileges. You won't owe the $25 fee, but expect the same background review before you're approved.

Deadlines Processing

  • Make sure any required supporting documents are received within 30 days of your application date.
  • If a background-check fee applies to your situation, that payment also has to be received within 30 days.
  • If the applicable fees and/or required supporting documents aren’t received within 30 days, the application is considered incomplete and won’t be processed.

Once the department receives everything - your documentation and payment (if applicable) - allow up to 60 days for processing. That wait can feel long, but it's the standard timeline for review.

Tip: If you do need to submit a payment, have your Application Visitor ID number ready when you pay.

Stuck waiting? Not sure if your application was received or marked incomplete? Email the San Carlos Unit visitation contact at pv.car.vidvis@azadc.gov. If your question involves a payment, have your Application Visitor ID number ready so staff can find your records faster.
