Your Visitation Application Was Approved—Now What? How to Find Out and Next Steps (San Carlos Unit)

After submitting your visitation application, the waiting and uncertainty can be the hardest part. Here's how the San Carlos Unit communicates approval decisions, how long processing takes, and what to do if you haven't heard back.

The San Carlos Unit doesn't send approval notices directly to visitors. Instead, the inmate receives the decision and is responsible for letting you know. If you're waiting to hear whether you've been approved, your best bet is to confirm through your loved one.

Processing takes time. Allow up to 60 days after the facility receives your payment (if required) and any supporting documentation.

Need to follow up? Email the visitation contact at pv.car.vidvis@azadc.gov. Include your Application Visitor ID and the inmate's identifying details (name and any information from your application). This helps staff locate your record and respond with a status update.

Wait Tips

  • Complete every information field on the visitation application before you submit it.
  • When you submit payment, keep your Application Visitor ID number handy (and save your payment confirmation/receipt for your records).
  • Plan on paying electronically. Visitation background check payments must be made electronically.
