Once your visitation application is processed, the inmate is responsible for telling you the outcome. Don't expect a separate approval message sent directly to you - your loved one gets notified first and passes the update along.

Note: If you're waiting for an official notice in your inbox or mailbox, you may be waiting longer than necessary. The approval update typically comes through the inmate.

  • Recheck that you completed every information field on the application before you submitted it.
  • Make sure any required supporting documents were turned in.
  • If a background check fee applied to you, confirm it was submitted.
  • Verify that any required fee and supporting documents were received within 30 days of your application date - otherwise the application can be treated as incomplete and not processed.
  1. Find your Application Visitor ID - you’ll need it any time you’re trying to confirm payment or ask about your application.
  2. Confirm your payment was submitted with that ID - the Application Visitor ID is part of what helps match the payment to the right application.
  3. Email the San Carlos Unit visitation contact if you still have no update - send a polite request to pv.car.vidvis@azadc.gov and include your Application Visitor ID so staff can locate your application.

Tip: If a payment goes in without the Application Visitor ID, it may not be applied correctly. Keep that ID handy whenever you pay or follow up.

Processing takes time - allow up to 60 days once the required payment (if applicable) and supporting documentation are received. That clock starts when they have everything they need. If something was missing or arrived late, expect delays.

Reminder: Keep your Application Visitor ID somewhere safe during the waiting period. You'll need it to confirm your payment went through and to request status updates.

Since the inmate is responsible for sharing your visitation status, delays often come down to communication - not the application itself. If you haven't heard anything, ask your loved one to check on the outcome. Need to follow up yourself? You can email the unit's visitation contact, but staff may have limits on what they can share and will need identifying details to locate your record.

  1. Send a status request email - write to pv.car.vidvis@azadc.gov and include your Application Visitor ID plus the inmate’s name and ADCRR number, then ask whether your visitor application is approved or incomplete.
