Before You Download the ICS Mobile App: What It Collects and Device Requirements
The ICSolutions (ICS) mobile app lets you video visit an incarcerated family member from home - or anywhere with WiFi or cellular data. When in-person visits aren't possible due to scheduling or transportation, that flexibility matters.
Before installing, take a look at what the app's privacy listing says it may collect and link to your identity. The categories listed include Contact Info, User Content, Identifiers, and Usage Data.
- ✓ Contact Info - the privacy listing says this may be collected and linked to your identity.
- ✓ User Content - the listing says it may collect user content that could be linked to your identity.
- ✓ Identifiers - the listing says it may collect identifiers that could be linked to your identity.
- ✓ Usage Data - the listing says it may collect usage data that could be linked to your identity.
Note: “May collect” is the wording used in the privacy listing. It describes what the app says it may collect, not a promise that every category is collected in every situation.
The privacy listing also mentions Diagnostics separately. This data may be collected, but the listing says it won't be linked to your identity.
Tip: Diagnostics typically means technical "what went wrong" data used to troubleshoot app problems - even when it isn't tied to you personally.
On Apple devices, the ICSolutions app requires iOS 12.4 or later for iPhone and iPod touch, and iPadOS 12.4 or later for iPad. If your device can't update to those versions, the app may not install or work properly.
Note: If you’re on Android, check the app store listing on your phone for the current minimum OS requirement before you download, since it can vary by app version and device.
Installing the ICS app comes down to a tradeoff: convenience versus how much personal data you're comfortable sharing. The app lets you visit from home or anywhere with WiFi or cellular data. But its privacy listing says it may collect and link Contact Info, User Content, Identifiers, and Usage Data to your identity. Diagnostics may also be collected, though not linked to you. If privacy matters to you, read those categories carefully before deciding.
- ✓ Confirm the jail you’re dealing with actually uses the ICS mobile app for video visits before you download it.
- ✓ Make sure your device meets the app’s requirements (on Apple devices, iOS 12.4+ for iPhone/iPod touch or iPadOS 12.4+ for iPad).
- ✓ Read the app’s privacy listing and decide whether you’re comfortable with the categories it says may be collected and linked to your identity.
