How to Schedule Your First In-Person Visit at Piedmont Correctional

Piedmont Correctional offers both in-person and video visits. For in-person, you can't just walk in - visits are by appointment only. You'll need to call or email the prison to schedule a time. Don't have the right contact info? Check the official NCDAC facility directory, or ask your loved one's caseworker where to schedule visits. Getting the correct number upfront saves you a wasted trip.

Note: Call the prison the day before your scheduled visit to confirm the facility’s visitation status.

Before you can schedule anything, your visitor application must be completed and approved by facility staff. No approval, no visit. One thing to keep in mind: each person in custody can have up to 18 approved visitors total (adults and minors combined). If that list is full, your loved one will need to remove someone before you can be added.

How to Schedule Your First In-Person Visit at Piedmont Correctional
  1. Make sure you’re approved to visit - a completed visitor application must be approved before any visit can occur.
  2. Call or email Piedmont to request an in-person appointment - in-person visits are appointment-only, and scheduling happens directly through the prison.
  3. Ask what you should expect for that specific day - when you schedule, confirm any day-specific instructions so you’re not surprised at the door.
  4. Call again the day before - confirm the facility’s visitation status before you travel.

Step3 Confirm Day Before

  • Confirm your visit is still scheduled and the facility’s visitation status is still “on” for the next day
  • Confirm there aren’t special restrictions affecting visiting before you arrive
  • If your visitor application was recently submitted, confirm it’s been approved by facility staff

Expect security screening when you arrive. Anyone 16 or older goes through a pat/frisk search and an electronic device scan. The pat/frisk follows gender-specific rules: male officers only search male visitors, while female officers can search either. Knowing this beforehand makes the process less jarring, especially your first time through.

Contraband reminder: Cell phones are considered contraband and are prohibited inside the facility.

Under normal circumstances, each person in custody gets one visiting session per week, lasting up to two hours. Plan accordingly.

You can bring up to three approved visitors per session, so coordinate with family beforehand to avoid showing up with too many people. That's separate from the overall approved list limit of 18 visitors. If multiple people want to visit over time, check whether there's still room on the list before anyone fills out paperwork.

Even when you've done everything right, visit conditions can change. The warden has discretion to adjust visiting times, frequency, duration, and total visits allowed for security or operational reasons. Your loved one's custody status matters too. Those on administrative or disciplinary segregation - or in control status (except protective control) - are limited to non-contact visits by appointment only.
