How to Send Mail to Pima County Jail: Postcards, Letters, and Money Orders

Send mail for someone housed at Pima County Jail to: P.O. Box 951, Tucson, Arizona 85702. This is also the mailing address used when you’re sending a money order or government check for deposit - just make sure you include the required information on the payment so it’s credited correctly.

  • Write “Inmate Trust Account” on the money order/government check
  • Include the inmate’s name
  • Include the pod location
  • Include the booking number

Pima County Jail limits incoming postcards to a maximum size of 4.25 inches by 6 inches. If your postcard is larger than that, it may not be accepted.

Postcards don't arrive in their original form. The jail copies them - digitally or by photocopy - and the person in custody receives the copy on a tablet or paper. You won't get the original back. After 14 calendar days, originals are destroyed, so don't send anything you'd want kept.

Prohibited Content Mail Rejection

  • No nudity or sexual conduct on postcards
  • No weapons shown on postcards
  • No gang references on postcards
  • No glitter on postcards
  • No mail, books, or magazines showing explicit sexual conduct
  • Don’t send postcards that are defaced or altered
  • Don’t put postcards in plastic or any other wrapping
  • Don’t write letters using gel pens (they will be returned to the sender)
  • Don’t mail items that the inmate can already buy through the facility commissary

Legal mail follows stricter rules. Use pre-printed/pre-stamped postage envelopes or metered postage, and only include loose paper. No binding, staples, or fasteners of any kind - anything other than loose pages will be rejected.

Note: Legal-mail manila envelopes will be confiscated and destroyed. The Corrections Bureau provides replacement manila envelopes for storage of legal mail.

Packages require advance approval. The person you're sending to must get authorization at least five days before you ship anything.

Plan for delays. The jail processes mail Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Anything sent right before a weekend or holiday won't start moving through the system until the next business day.
