What You Can and Can't Do During a Pima County Video Visit (FAQ)
Pima County remote video visits have a few strict rules that can lead to warnings, cut-off calls, or account restrictions. Here’s what to watch for so your visit doesn’t get interrupted.
To use remote video visitation at Pima County Jail, the “Friends and Family” account has to be in an adult’s name. Visitors must be at least 18 years old to have an approved account for remote video visits.
If a child or teen is going to be part of the visit, they can’t appear on their own. Visitors under 18 must be accompanied on-screen by the adult account holder for the entire remote video visit - start to finish.
Reminder: Remote video visitation is set up around an approved adult account holder (18+). If minors are present, they need to stay on-screen with that adult for the whole visit.
During a Pima County video visit, everyone on the call needs to be easy to see and clearly identifiable the entire time. That applies to both sides of the screen: the incarcerated person and the visitor(s). If your camera angle is too dark, your face is off-screen, or anything makes it hard to confirm who’s present, it can trigger enforcement of the identification rule.
- Fix the issue after a warning - If either the inmate or the visitor can’t be identified, the first step is a warning.
- Expect the visit to end if it continues - If identification still isn’t possible, the visit will be terminated.
- Be prepared for account restrictions - After a termination for identification problems, additional restrictions may be placed on the account(s).
Note: Pima County personal (non-privileged) video visits are monitored and recorded, which is one reason visibility and identification rules are enforced closely.
Don’t try to squeeze in a visit from the road. Pima County does not allow video visits while a vehicle is in motion - even if you’re only a passenger. If you need to take the visit from a car, plan to be parked and fully stopped before the call starts and for the entire session.
- ✓ Park and stay parked for the entire visit (no “passenger visits” while moving)
- ✓ Set your phone/tablet somewhere steady so you remain visible and identifiable the whole time
- ✓ Avoid camera angles that cut off faces or make it hard to tell who is on-screen
For Pima County Jail, personal (non-privileged) video visits are monitored and recorded by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and ViaPath Technologies. If you’re unsure whether something is allowed, assume it will be reviewed the same way an in-person visit would be.
Because these visits are monitored and recorded, rule violations can follow your account - not just your current call. If the system can’t clearly identify who is present, you may get a warning, then your visit can be terminated, and additional restrictions may be placed on the account(s). The safest approach is to keep the approved adult account holder on-screen (especially if any visitor is under 18), keep everyone clearly visible, and avoid situations - like being in a moving vehicle - that can get a visit shut down.
