How to Prepare for Your First Visit to Quehanna Boot Camp: ID, Searches, and Parking
Your first visit to Quehanna Boot Camp goes smoother when you know what staff will ask for at the door—and what can get you turned away before you see your loved one. Use this as a quick prep list for ID, check-in, security screening, and parking.
Before you leave home, make sure every adult in your group has photo identification. At Quehanna, that means a driver's license or another photo ID showing your current home address and date of birth. No proper ID? You'll be turned away at the door.
Bringing a minor? Plan their ID ahead of time. Quehanna requires minor-aged visitors to have either a school ID with a photo, or an original/certified birth certificate plus a Social Security card. Don't assume "they're a kid" will cut it at the lobby desk - it won't.
Graduation visits: Arrive no earlier than one hour before the ceremony. You'll still need proper ID to enter or remain on the grounds - one photo ID, or two non-photo IDs (with one showing your date of birth).
Minors can't visit alone. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult who's authorized per DC-313 and listed on the inmate's approved visiting list. Being willing to supervise isn't enough - you have to be an approved visitor for that specific inmate.
When you arrive, check in with the Lobby Officer. Staff will review your identification before letting you go further. Adults need one photo ID (driver's license or other photo ID with your current home address and date of birth). Minors need the ID options listed above.
- ✓ Cameras, camcorders, or any type of recording device
- ✓ Cell phones or pagers
- ✓ Cigarettes or tobacco products of any kind
- ✓ E-cigarettes
- ✓ Vapes
- ✓ Lighters or matches
- ✓ Drinking containers of any kind
- ✓ Any change or cash
- ✓ Purses (they must remain locked in your vehicle)
Expect security screening before entry. All visitors are subject to search, and Quehanna may use an Ion Scanner and/or K-9 dogs. This applies to everyone - including graduation guests.
Parking on facility property is a privilege. If you park on the grounds, your vehicle can be searched by a K-9 Team. Treat everything in your car - bags, pockets, compartments - as fair game for inspection.
Vehicle search consent: If you refuse to consent to a vehicle search, you’ll be required to remove the vehicle from facility property.
Don't visit if you've been drinking or using drugs. If you appear intoxicated - or smell of alcohol - you won't be allowed inside.
- Follow staff instructions right away - If you’re told your vehicle is subject to a K-9 search, treat it as a condition of parking on facility grounds.
- Remove the vehicle if you won’t consent - Refusing consent means you’ll be required to take the vehicle off facility property.
- Secure your belongings and reset your plan - Once you’ve moved your vehicle (or parked as directed), make sure you still have the IDs you need for entry and leave prohibited items locked in the car.
Turned away? Focus on what you can fix for next time: missing ID, bringing a minor without the right adult, or arriving after drinking. Not sure what went wrong? Ask staff which requirement you missed, then plan a new visit once you can comply. If the issue involves approval status (like who can accompany a minor), coordinate with your incarcerated loved one to get the right adult on the approved list before trying again.
