What to Bring and Expect for Your First Visit to Quehanna Boot Camp (Checklist)

Before you make the trip, confirm you're actually approved to visit. Quehanna requires every visitor - including minors - to be on the inmate's approved facility visiting list and approved in the DOC Inmate Visitation System. Not sure if you or your child is cleared? Contact the institution before scheduling or showing up. Getting turned away at check-in is frustrating, and a quick call can save you the drive.

ID to Bring

  • Adults: bring one photo ID that shows your current home address and date of birth (for example, a driver’s license).
  • Minors: bring either a school photo ID, or an original/certified birth certificate plus a Social Security card.
  • Don’t try to “make it work” without documents - no visit will be permitted without proper identification.

Expect security screening when you arrive. Visitors can be searched before entering and again when leaving - the facility may use an Ion Scanner, a K-9 dog team, or both. Keep your pockets and belongings simple, and build in extra time so the process doesn't cut into your visit.

Note: Parking on Quehanna property is a privilege, and if you park on the grounds your vehicle may be searched by a K-9 team.

No entry if intoxicated: If you appear under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances - or you smell of alcohol when you arrive - you won’t be permitted to enter.

Prohibited Items

  • Gifts of any kind (inmates can’t take anything from the visiting area)
  • Tobacco products of any kind (including cigarettes), e-cigarettes, and vapes (Quehanna is tobacco-free)
  • Cameras, tape recorders, and camcorders
  • Cell phones, radios, pagers
  • Handbags, wallets, cash
  • Food
  • Sunglasses
  • Lighters
  • Gum
  • Hats and hooded garments
  • Drugs, alcohol, weapons

Attending a graduation or large event? Timing and ID rules are strict. You can't arrive until one hour before the ceremony, and you'll need proper ID to enter or even stay on the grounds: either one photo ID, or two non-photo IDs (with one showing your date of birth). Item restrictions are tighter for these events. Leave behind cameras, recording devices, cell phones, pagers, tobacco products (including e-cigarettes and vapes), lighters, matches, drinking containers, and cash. Purses must stay locked in your vehicle. Bringing a baby? The facility allows limited items in the visiting room: two unopened plastic containers of baby food, up to three clear plastic baby bottles with milk or formula, three loose diapers, and individual pre-packaged wipes. Baby creams aren't permitted.
