Redgranite's Visiting Room Rules: Physical Contact, Food, and What Your Kids Can Do
Redgranite Correctional Institution has visiting room rules that catch families off guard—especially around physical contact, kids, and sharing food. Here's what you need to know so your visit doesn't get cut short.
Physical contact at Redgranite is tightly limited. You can share a brief embrace and kiss at the beginning and end of your visit - that's it. No other physical contact is allowed in between. Excessive displays of affection aren't permitted either. If staff see embracing, kissing, or other indiscreet conduct during the visit, it can result in disciplinary action and potentially cost you visiting privileges.
Note: Video visiting can be terminated immediately if staff suspect illegal activity or any other behavior that wouldn’t be acceptable in the visiting room.
Children Diapers Breastfeeding Lap
- ✓ Change children’s diapers in the lobby restroom only.
- ✓ The person in our care (PIOC) is not allowed to take children to the restroom.
Breastfeeding is allowed during visitation, but only in a designated area. Ask staff where that spot is when you arrive - better to know upfront than scramble later.
Visiting with kids? Keep the contact rule in mind throughout. A brief embrace and kiss at the start and end of the visit are allowed - nothing else in between.
Want to share snacks during your visit? Here's the key rule: only vending machine and bakery items can be passed across the table without staff approval. Don't hand over personal items, papers, or anything else - that requires explicit permission. When the visit ends, you can take any leftover vending or bakery items with you. Handy if you bought more than you needed.
Bakery purchases work differently than vending. The person you're visiting buys bakery items through a disbursement - visitors can't go up to the counter themselves. Don't plan on ordering or paying directly; staff expect purchases to go through the PIOC's process.
Strict limits apply to what the person you're visiting can take out of the room. They're allowed up to five photos from the institution's photo project and one picture colored by their children during the visit. Nothing else leaves with them.
- Have the PIOC check out the game using their lanyard - games are checked out by the person in our care, not by visitors.
- Wait while staff inspect it before it’s handed out - staff will look the game over prior to issuance.
- Return it for a second inspection - staff inspect the game again when it’s brought back.
Rule violations carry real consequences. Excessive displays of affection can lead to disciplinary action and loss of visiting privileges. Video visits face even quicker enforcement - staff can terminate the call immediately if they suspect illegal activity or inappropriate behavior.
