What to Bring (and Leave Behind) for Your Redgranite Visit: A Practical Checklist
A smooth visit starts before you walk through the door. Bring the right ID, leave prohibited items in the car, and plan to use the lobby lockers for anything you can't take inside.
Everyone 16 or older needs photo identification to visit Redgranite Correctional Institution. Show up without an acceptable ID, and you'll be turned away at check-in.
- ✓ Valid state driver’s license
- ✓ Valid passport or visa
- ✓ Valid Department of Transportation ID
- ✓ Valid military ID (must include date of birth)
- ✓ Valid tribal ID (if it includes a photo)
Amish visitors who don't carry photo ID for religious reasons can use an affidavit instead. Your Bishop must sign and notarize it, and it needs to include a physical description of each visitor - hair color, eye color, height, and weight. Redgranite keeps the original and files a copy in the inmate's social services record.
Travel light. Lockers in the lobby hold your car keys and anything else that isn't allowed inside - just grab a token from the Lobby Officer. If you're not sure whether something's permitted, assume it isn't and stash it before you enter.
Note: The institution is not responsible for personal property left in vehicles or lobby lockers.
Prohibited Items
- ✓ Drugs
- ✓ Tobacco
- ✓ Alcohol
- ✓ Cell phones
- ✓ Weapons
Warning: Trying to bring drugs, tobacco, alcohol, cell phones, or weapons into Redgranite can lead to felony prosecution. Delivering even the smallest amount of illegal or controlled substances to a Wisconsin state prison can bring a fine up to $10,000, imprisonment up to 8 years and 6 months, and loss of your driver’s license for up to 5 years.
- Secure the firearm in your vehicle - Place it in the locked trunk or a locked compartment of your personal vehicle before you exit in the parking lot.
- Lock your vehicle - After you exit, lock the vehicle.
Park in any unreserved spot. Accessible spaces are up front, closest to the entrance - helpful if you're with someone who needs a shorter walk.
