What to Bring (and What to Leave Behind) When Visiting Redgranite Correctional Institution
Visiting Redgranite Correctional Institution (RGCI) goes smoother when you pack light and leave the risky stuff behind. Use this checklist to avoid getting turned away at the door—or worse.
Stop and double-check your pockets and bag: drugs, tobacco, alcohol, cell phones, and weapons are not permitted at RGCI. Trying to bring any of these into the institution can lead to felony prosecution.
RGCI is tobacco-free. No cigarettes, vapes, dip, or lighters anywhere on institution property - period. If you're used to keeping tobacco products in a coat pocket or purse "just in case," empty everything out before you leave home.
Heads up: trained dogs may be used on institution property to detect and prevent contraband and drugs from entering RGCI.
Allowed Baby Items
- ✓ Baby items must pass inspection and should be carried together in a clear plastic bag
- ✓ Up to two (2) baby blankets per child
- ✓ Up to four (4) diapers per child
Brought something you can't take inside? Don't panic. Lockers are available in the RGCI lobby for vehicle keys and other prohibited items. Just ask the Lobby Officer for a token.
Everyone 16 and older needs photo ID at check-in. RGCI accepts a valid state driver's license, passport or visa, Department of Transportation ID, military ID (must show date of birth), or tribal ID with a photo.
No photo ID for religious reasons: RGCI has a process for Amish visitors who do not possess photo identification; it involves providing a signed and notarized affidavit from their Bishop.
Packing Checklist
- ✓ Bring your photo ID if you’re age 16+ (required at check-in)
- ✓ If you’re bringing baby supplies, pack only what’s allowed and carry it in a clear plastic bag for inspection (for example: up to two baby blankets per child and up to four diapers per child)
- ✓ Leave tobacco behind - RGCI is tobacco-free, including on institution property
- ✓ Do a final pocket/bag sweep before you enter: no drugs, alcohol, cell phones, or weapons (attempting to bring these in may lead to felony prosecution)
- ✓ If you accidentally brought something that can’t go in, use the lobby lockers; get a token from the Lobby Officer
- ✓ Keep what you carry to a minimum so inspection and check-in go faster
