What You Can (and Can't) Bring to Redgranite's Visiting Room — A Practical Checklist

Need medication or a medical device during your visit? You can bring what's medically necessary - inhalers, nitro pills (only the amount you need, in the original container), and epi-pens are all allowed. Let both the Lobby Sergeant and the Visiting Room Sergeant know when you arrive. Your item won't stay with you at your seat; staff will keep it at the Visiting Room Officer's Station, and you can request it if needed.

Brought something you can't take inside? No need to leave it behind. Lobby lockers are available for vehicle keys and other prohibited items. Ask the Lobby Officer for a token.

Prohibited Items

  • Drugs
  • Tobacco (Redgranite is tobacco-free - no tobacco products may be used or possessed on institution property)
  • Alcohol
  • Cell phones
  • Weapons

Warning: Trying to bring drugs, tobacco, alcohol, cell phones, or weapons into Redgranite can lead to felony prosecution.

The lobby lockers make your visit easier. Stash your vehicle keys and anything else that can't go inside. Grab a token from the Lobby Officer when you arrive.

Heads up: The institution is not responsible for personal property left in vehicles or in the lobby lockers.

Everyone 16 and older needs photo ID. Redgranite checks identification at check-in, and you can be turned away without it.

  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Valid passport or visa
  • Valid Department of Transportation (DOT) ID
  • Valid military ID (must include date of birth)
  • Valid tribal ID (if it includes a photo)

Amish visitors without photo ID due to religious beliefs need alternative verification. Redgranite requires a signed, notarized affidavit from your Bishop that includes a physical description for each visitor - hair color, eye color, height, and weight.

What you bring can affect whether your visit continues once you're inside. Keep personal items to a minimum, follow staff directions, and be ready to store anything that can't come in using the lobby lockers.

Physical contact rule: You may embrace and exchange a brief kiss at the beginning and end of each visit. No other physical contact is allowed during the visit.
