What You Can and Can't Bring Into Redgranite's Visiting Room — Visitor Checklist

Medically necessary items are allowed - inhalers, nitroglycerin pills (bring only what you need, in the original container), and epi-pens can all come inside. If you'll need medication during your visit, let both the Lobby Sergeant and the Visiting Room Sergeant know when you arrive. Staff will hold it at the officer's station so you can access it if needed.

Photo rules come into play at the end of the visit. Your loved one can only take certain items out of the visiting room: up to five photos taken by the institution's photo project during the visit, plus one picture colored by their children during the visit. Keep that limit in mind so nothing gets left behind or confiscated at the door.

Prohibited Quick List

  • Purses
  • Billfolds
  • Drugs
  • Tobacco
  • Alcohol
  • Cell phones
  • Weapons
  • Any attempt to bring drugs, tobacco, alcohol, cell phones, or weapons into the institution can lead to felony prosecution

Tobacco-free policy: Redgranite is tobacco-free - no tobacco products may be used anywhere on institution property or possessed inside the facility.

Brought something you can't take inside? You don't have to leave it behind. Lockers in the lobby hold vehicle keys and other prohibited items. Ask the Lobby Officer for a token.

Firearms in vehicles: If you have a license to carry a concealed firearm or weapon, secure it in a locked trunk or locked compartment before you exit your vehicle in the parking lot, and lock the vehicle after exiting.

Redgranite uses trained detection dogs to screen for contraband and drugs. These dogs can be anywhere on institution property - the parking lot, lobby, and visiting room included. Don't assume something is "fine" just because you haven't gone inside yet.

Don’t risk it: Drugs, tobacco, alcohol, cell phones, and weapons are not permitted - and attempting to bring them in can lead to felony prosecution. Remember, Redgranite is tobacco-free across institution property.

What You Can and Can't Bring Into Redgranite's Visiting Room — Visitor Checklist
  1. Pack baby supplies in one clear bag - Keep all baby items together in a clear plastic bag so staff can inspect them quickly.
  2. Bring only medically necessary meds/devices - Items like inhalers or epi-pens are permitted; nitro pills should be only the amount needed in the original container.
  3. Tell staff if you may need your medication during the visit - Notify both the Lobby Sergeant and the Visiting Room Sergeant so your medication can be kept at the officer’s station and accessed if necessary.

Planning to buy a treat during the visit? Here's how the bakery works: your loved one purchases bakery items through a disbursement. Visitors can't go up to the bakery counter. When the visit ends, any leftover vending machine or bakery items can leave with you. That way you're not tossing things at checkout.

Photo limit reminder: The PIOC can leave the visiting room with up to five institution-taken photos from the visit and one child-colored picture from the visit - nothing beyond that.
