Visitation

What you can and can't bring into RGCI's visiting room — a checklist

RGCI is strict about what comes past the lobby. Use this checklist so you don't get turned away at the door, or worse.

Leave your purse and billfold behind. RGCI doesn't allow either one in the Visiting Room, so don't even bring them to the front desk if you can help it. If you do arrive with vehicle keys or other items that can't go inside, stash them in the lockers in the lobby. That's exactly what they're there for.

You'll need a token to use a lobby locker. Ask the Lobby Officer for one when you check in, before you head farther into the building.

Medications

  • Medically necessary medications or devices are allowed, including inhalers.
  • Nitro pills are allowed if you bring only the amount you need, and keep them in the original container.
  • EpiPens are allowed.
  • Notify both the Lobby Sergeant and the Visiting Room Sergeant if you require medication during the visit.
  • Expect the medication to be kept at the Officer’s Station in the Visiting Room and provided if needed.
  1. Gather all baby items together so they can be inspected as one set.
  2. Put them in a clear plastic bag to make handling and inspection easier at the entrance.

Zero-tolerance contraband: Drugs, tobacco, alcohol, cell phones, and weapons are absolutely not permitted in the institution.

This isn't a slap-on-the-wrist situation. Anyone caught trying to bring drugs, tobacco, alcohol, cell phones, or weapons into RGCI faces felony prosecution.

RGCI uses trained dogs to sniff out contraband and drugs. These dogs can be anywhere on institution property: the parking lot, the lobby and reception area, even the visiting room. Make sure your vehicle and your belongings are completely clean before you arrive.
