What to Bring (and What to Leave Home) for Your First Visit to River City
Your first visit to River City goes smoothly when you bring the one thing they require—and leave behind everything that can get you turned away. Use this as your checklist before heading out.
First, confirm your loved one is eligible for in-person visitation. River City allows in-person visits for residents in the Reentry phase. Phase status can change, though, and different facility materials have referenced different phases over time. Check with the resident's Case Manager before you make the trip.
Being eligible is only half of it - you also need to be approved as a visitor. The resident's Case Manager must approve everyone listed on the resident's Visitation Form. Make sure your name is on that form and cleared before you show up. Without approval, you'll be denied entry even if you have ID and follow every other rule.

Leave snacks and drinks behind. No food or beverages are allowed in the visitation area, so don’t plan on bringing coffee, water, gum, or anything similar inside with you.
Don't bring anything you're hoping to hand off. Visitors and residents can't pass items to each other during the visit - even something that feels harmless like a note, photo, or small personal item. If you need to get something to the resident, use the facility's approved process instead.
Warning: Anyone in possession of a weapon, drugs, or other contraband identified by River City can have criminal charges filed against them.
Expect a no-contact visit if you're an adult. River City doesn't allow touching between adults, so keep your hands to yourself throughout. Breaking this rule can get your visit cut short.
