Before Your First Visit to Rockdale County Jail: What to Bring and What to Leave Behind
First-time visits can feel overwhelming. This checklist covers what Rockdale County Jail requires—so you show up prepared and don't get turned away at the door.
In-person visitation at Rockdale County Sheriff's Office Detention Center is currently restricted due to COVID-19. Only attorney visits are allowed onsite - family and friends need to use virtual visits from home. If you were planning to drive over for a regular visit, stop here. Your next step is setting up a remote visit instead.
Virtual visits run through Securus. Create an account on the Securus website, then wait for approval - Rockdale's Inmate Affairs takes about 24 hours to process requests. Once approved, you can pick an available time slot and connect from home.
ID Requirements
- ✓ If you’re 17 or older, bring a government-issued photo ID.
- ✓ Accepted examples include a valid state driver’s license or state ID.
- ✓ A foreign or U.S. passport is acceptable.
- ✓ A resident alien card is acceptable.
- ✓ A U.S. military ID is acceptable.
Entering the visitation lobby or visitation area? You must be wearing a shirt and shoes. If you're unsure whether your outfit passes, change before you leave the house. Getting turned away at the door is a frustrating way to lose a visit.
Heads up: Anyone under the influence of illegal drugs or intoxicants will not be allowed to visit. Visitors under 17 are only allowed if they’re immediate family and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

- Arrive before the visitation period starts - if you show up late, you can lose your chance to visit.
- Sign in with the deputy supervising visitation - you must be signed in by the start of the visitation period or you won’t be allowed to visit.
Visits at Rockdale County Jail are limited to one visitor per inmate, for 20 minutes. The exception: children can join if they're accompanied by a parent or guardian.
For parents/guardians: If a child becomes unruly or loud, the visit can be ended, and it could affect future visitation privileges.
