How Property Bonds Work at Rockdale County: Hours, Requirements, Title Search, and Fees
Property bonds in Rockdale County involve serious paperwork, and timing matters. Here's how the jail handles them, what documents you'll need, and when a title search comes into play.
Rockdale County accepts property bonds Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, excluding holidays. The property must be improved real estate located in Rockdale County - mobile homes don't qualify. Before you take time off work or start gathering documents, confirm your property meets this requirement.
If the property is in a different county, the owner must visit the sheriff's office where the property is located and request an out-of-county bond.
Ownership Docs
- ✓ Warranty deed or quitclaim deed
- ✓ Current real estate tax receipt
- ✓ Every person listed on the deed must come to the Rockdale County Jail and sign the bonding paperwork/affidavit in the presence of the deputy writing the bond
Before gathering signatures, confirm the property qualifies. Rockdale County requires improved real estate located within the county. Mobile homes don't count as improved real estate for property bond purposes.
Equity matters here. The property must have equity worth at least double the bond amount. A property with minimal equity won't work for higher bonds.
Bonds of $25,000 or more require a title search. A licensed attorney in good standing must complete it, and you have five business days from when the bond is processed to submit it.
Expect a $20 cash bond fee when you submit. Bring exact change.
Property bonds and cash bonds are handled differently - don't confuse them. Cash bonds can be paid with cash or a cashier's check for the full amount. City of Conyers bonds are a separate process: cash bonds must be paid directly to Municipal Court at 1194 Scott Street, Conyers, GA 30012.
Refunds: The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office/Jail Division doesn't handle bond refunds. Once your case is settled and disposed of, contact the Rockdale County Clerk of Courts at (770) 278-7900 or 922 Court Street NE, Conyers, GA 30012 for refund or bond return questions.
